Technical inspections on port equipment

A question that is asked to us sometimes, but also skipped in a lot of occasions, is whether the equipment that is for sale has been inspected/surveyed or can be inspected / surveyed. This question is vital for making up your mind of purchasing the equipment that is being offered or not. The technical condition cannot always be 100% and that is all fine provided that you know about this in advance and have the ability to remedy the items that need some technical attention.

To make a judgement whether you want to proceed on buying a piece of port equipment it is vital to do a technical check-up, even if the equipment is only a few years old! Because not every terminal operator is as keen on keeping the equipment in a good condition, not to mention potential damages that can occur during the transport of the equipment.

And when doing, or ordering an inspection / survey, please make sure that you partner up with a reputable and, even more important, a company that knows the equipment and the industry. The craziest example that we have experienced with some inspector, who came from a reputable company which name I will not mention, came to inspect the equipment with his first remark being: ”jeez that is a big piece of machinery”. Turns out that this guy was specialized in auditing chemical installations! As much as this person, most probably, knows a bit about hydraulics and mechanics. For sure he has no clue about equipment specific items such as cracks that can occur in the chassis or the difference between, what seems to be, an oil leakage and a simple example of ‘over greasing’ parts of the machine.

So the customer spent some 750 euros on this inspection/survey not knowing that it was a complete waste of money for the inspection and, in some occasions, money on the port equipment.

At Heavy Cargo Lifters we strive to inform our customers as much as we can about the technical condition of the port equipment for sale. Further we also like to inform our customers about the daily maintenance, please see this article on our website about daily maintenance, that the purchased equipment requires. If the equipment is being looked after properly, after we supplied it, it can last longer and thus our customers can be satisfied and open to perhaps doing more business with us in the future. If you are looking for a structured way to undertake your (daily) maintenance please check this link: please send me daily maintanance checklists on port equipment and we can than share with you our documents that extensively explains on the general maintenance that needs to be taken care of.
